The Aurora Yoga Center walked in the 4th of July parade downtown Aurora and it was a good time! We handed out class schedule postcards with glow-sticks attached. We wore AYC logo t-shirts and carried a big American flag. We danced & smiled & waved!
It’s that slippery time of year, when each time we leave the house we risk slipping on the ice and having a fall. We may not have as much snow or the subzero temps like last year, however it’s still icy out there!
One thing you can do everyday to help your balance is simply stand on one foot. You can stand on one foot at a time while brushing your teeth each morning to make it a part of your routine. Consistently working on your balance is going to help you tremendously as you navigate the slick sidewalks, parking lots, and driveways.
A great one to start with is Vrksasana or Tree Pose. Standing on one leg and placing the opposite foot along the inner ankle, calf, or thigh of the standing leg.
See you at the studio and stay standing!

Happy New Year!
Glad to be back on the blog! – Life has been good and extra busy with our new addition. Herbert Jude Manning was born on September 22, 2014. He is a super sweet and happy baby.
“Regarding lower-back pain, there are many possible treatments available. In a recent study, 492 participants complaining of lower-back pain were questioned as to the methods of treatment they had tried and the efficacy of each. The study found that among those who tried treatment by yoga instructors, 96 percent of the cases had moderate to long-term relief from symptoms, compared to 65 percent who reported the same level of relief when they were treated by physical therapists, 28 percent who were treated by chiropractors, 10 percent who were treated by massage therapists, and only 4 percent who were treated by neurologists. The clear superiority of yoga and physical therapy in regard to lower-back pain is likely due to their emphasis on exercises that strengthen the muscles of the back and the supporting muscles of the abdomen; the more fit you are in terms of yogic conditioning, the less likely you are to suffer from lower-back pain.” From the International Journal of Yoga Therapy 13 (2003):55

“Happy Baby Pose” is also good for your back!
Try a Happy Baby Pose – it may help your back…. it may also relieve some gas!

10 and 10 – a special offer.
10 one hour private yoga lessons plus 10 one hour massages for $1000
As you may know the Aurora Yoga Center is looking to expand the studio and its offerings.
We are currently in the planning phase of space beautification for the front entry way, the back office space and converting the North side of the building into treatment rooms for massage, acupuncture, esthetician, and energy work. The South side of the building, the current yoga studio, will be expanded with the removal of the existing massage treatment room walls and a wood floor will be added to the new enlarged yoga studio as well as a revamped rope wall. We have assembled a great team of designers, builders, and organizers to make these ideas into reality – we just need the funds for these big projects.
10 and 10 is a limited time offer of 10 private yoga lessons and 10 one hour massages from Jeff Manning. This package offers a $300 savings and the AYC receives some funds to start these expansion projects.
This is a unique opportunity to work with Jeff to help you create a customized program to deepen your yoga practice and bring the benefits of regular massage into your life.
You will receive: 10 private 1 hour sessions
10 one hour massages
Satisfaction of helping the AYC grow to the next level
The Aurora Yoga Center has been built from and for the community in which it serves. All the funding from the 10 and 10 goes to the studio to help enrich the space and offerings for the community.
We are so happy to have Pete Stadalsky as one of our yoga teachers at the Aurora Yoga Center. Besides being a great teacher, he is kind and caring and generous. Next week Pete and his good friend Nolan embark on a 1000 mile canoe trip in an effort to raise $10,000 for the American Diabetes Association. Both paddlers have fathers with type one diabetes.
You can read more about their adventure, follow their trip, view a map, and make a donation on their website: www.paddletocurediabetes.com
Another way to support their efforts is by purchasing an exclusive Yoga Bones t-shirt designed by Jeff Manning for this special cause. The shirts are hand-dyed a faded, earthy green and are 100% cotton. Shirts are $20 and proceeds go towards supporting their trip. Shirts come in unisex sizes: Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, XX-Large, & XXX-Large.
Shirts can be ordered online and shipped anywhere in the world: www.yogabones.net
If you are local and do not want to pay for shipping – please send us an email to place an order: Yogabonesinc@yahoo.com
Local orders may be picked up at the Aurora Yoga Center.
We wish Pete & Nolan all the luck in the world as they paddle for 70+ days! Remember to follow their blog to see pictures and read about their journey. Hopefully you can make a donation, purchase a T-shirt, or at least send them good energy for their trip!
Thank you so much,

May the Fourth Be With You!
This Sunday, May 4th is a Star Wars themed fundraising walk/run to support Wellness House. Wellness House, located in Hindsdale, IL, Wellness House is a community-based organization that offers resources and support at no cost for people living with cancer including families and loved ones.
Cancer has touched all of our lives, whether personally, a family member, a friend. Wellness House is a great resource, especially for the family members dealing with a loved one’s cancer diagnosis and treatment. One of AYC’s students, Heather, is participating in this Sunday’s Walk/Run for Wellness House. Heather’s daughters have benefited greatly from Wellness House as their dad battles cancer. You can support Heather’s team with a donation or join the walk/run yourself. Cancer has touched all of us, even the Aurora Yoga Center – Another of AYC’s students, Paula, has an ongoing fight with cancer, she is continually in our thoughts and prayers. Frank, another student of the AYC is a Tai Chi teacher at Wellness House. We can see this battle from all sides, families, friends, and supporters. Support local families affected by cancer – Walk for Wellness House – May 4th, 8am-12pm.
Hope your May is off to a great start – helping yourself and others.
